Sun Tans and Laser Treatment

We all enjoy the sun but those thinking of coming for laser tattoo removal should be aware that it is not advisable to tan on the area to be treated. Modern lasers are very good at targeting only the ink pigment in your skin and not your skin pigment (melanin). However a tan increases the risk of your skin pigment also being targeted by the laser wavelengths and this could lead to hypo-pigmentation (loss of skin pigment), which results skin bleaching.  Although this is usually a temporary reaction which rectifies in around 4 to 6 months, occasionally it is permanent and therefore the risk should be avoided.
