Nail Fungus Treatment (Onychomycosis)
Fungi are microscopic organisms that live and grow in dead skin around or on the toenail or fingernail.
Laser treatment is becoming the preferred method of treating nail fungus infection because:
- It is safe
- It has an 80% success rate – more than oral or topical medications
- It is pain-free with no down-time required
How it works
Q-switched lasers treat fungal infection on the same principle as removing tattoo ink. The fungus particles are shattered and broken down by the laser and removed by the body’s immune system.
Initially you will have 2 treatments which will be 4 weeks apart. There will be an 8 to 10 week interval before your 3rd treatment to allow for good nail growth.
For severe infections, treatment is more effective if nails have been debrided by a podiatrist prior to treatment.
Due to the contagious nature of nail fungal infections, all nails of the affected limb must be treated.
