Tattoo Removal

Step One

During the application of tattoos, thousands of particles of ink are deposited into the dense inner layer of skin known as the dermis. Whilst the body’s normal reaction to such foreign particles is to absorb and eradicate them, the size of the particles in tattoos ink prevents this. During laser treatment however, these large ink particles are shattered into many smaller pieces, which the body can then remove.

Step Two

Laser treatment selectively targets the ink molecules only, not the surrounding skin tissue. It consists of very short and fast pulses of concentrated energy, at wavelengths that are specifically matched to be of greatest impact on the targeted ink colour. Once the ink particles have been broken down into smaller pieces, the body’s immune system will go to work removing them and the tattoo will begin to fade.

Step Three

Due to the way in which tattoo ink is layered into the skin, most tattoos will require multiple treatments in order to achieve complete removal. Each treatment will progressively target the deeper layers of ink that were previously hidden by the earlier layers. I recommend that treatments be spaced at least 6-8 weeks apart, in order to allow for an optimum degree of fading between visits.
